So, yes, I'm a nerd. In case you couldn't, you know, already tell from my blog. I love Firefly, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter (though I'm not as huge a fan as some of my friends) Legend of Zelda games, Mario games, watched the miniseries and first season of (and need to see more of) Battlestar Galactica, read the first book of A Song of Ice and Fire (and plan on reading more), basically all of Neil Gaiman's books, read xkcd, Hark a Vagrant, etc. The list goes on. Plus, I'm a history nerd, but that's a different kind of nerddom. And a musical theater nerd. There. There are my credentials. So yes, I was pretty much totally psyched for Emerald City Comicon. I managed to carve one day out of my busy grad school life to indulge my passions!
Emerald City Comicon did not disappoint. I wish I had gotten to spend more days at Comicon, but one day was still great! Zan and I got to see Summer Glau, got to hear Adam Baldwin sing a bit of "The Man They Call Jayne," got to listen to an interview with Oliver and James Phelps (the Weasley twins from Harry Potter), saw Lea Thompson, got George Takei's autograph, and my absolute favorite part of the day-- we got to sit about five rows back from Edward James Olmos for an hour while he spoke. He's incredibly interesting, and he touched on a lot of topics that I might take into my Drama 101 sections. Olmos ended his interview with a rousing "So say we all!", to which we all shouted back "So say we all!" We gave him a standing ovation. It was a very, very moving moment.
I wish we had had more time to visit the booths to visit the comic writers/graphic artists, to see the voice actors, to people watch (the costumes were amazing!), and to do a million other things. I felt so sad as 5:00 approached and the stalls were shutting down... until next year.
Here are some pictures from my fantastic Sunday!
All the things you are nerdy for, I am also nerdy for. We were meant to be! And I've met Summer Glau too. She was so cute and delicate and THIN... and she said my belt was amazing. I will take that with me for the rest of my life :)
ReplyDeleteEdward James Olmos... I don't know what he's like in real life but I always say that Adama is my fictional dad. I call him Dadama. Even though that would mean that Apollo is my brother and therefore off limits- I would *still* have Adama as my dad!! I would die to be in the same room as him. Just die!
And I love how quickly you got that post up. Very impressive!
You look super-cute! :D And I'm super-jealous. Maybe I'll have to come visit you for the con next year. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are freakishly adorable. I need to finish watching season one of Battlestar. And read The Hunger Games.
ReplyDeleteBtw, I couldn't finish Twilight. I think I got... three chapters in? Which was like a hundred pages, and it was SO BORING and NOTHING HAPPENED. And while I can understand teenage girls projecting themselves on Bella (because she has no personality and is perfect for projecting), Edward just makes me want to punch him in the nuts and tell him to stop being a cocky doucheater. So... I might get through it eventually, but it's going to take a while.
